Members of the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP) from IHM along with a few IHM parishioners visited the Villa Francis Home for the Aged on March 1 2025.
The residents were wheeled downstairs by their caregivers to meet the group from IHM.Some of the nursing staff of the Home from Myanmar, the Philippines and Mizoram (India) performed a dance and sang a song before the group from IHM SSVP took over. The children who accompanied the IHM group sang praise and worship songs and John Cher, an IHM parishioner in his 70s, belted out a few golden oldies much to the delight of all the residents.
Soon it was time to blow out the candles on a large cake, baked by Jessica — a Vincentian.
All the residents whose birthdays fall in March gathered around the cake and took turns to cut it. Each of them were presented with an instant photograph taken by Maryann, another Vincentian, of them cutting the cake. One resident was overcome with emotion when he got his photograph.
Tears rolled down his cheeks and he had to be comforted by the Home’s executive director, Sr Maria Sim.
The Villa Francis Home, in Yishun, has over 200 elderly residents and is managed by the Catholic Welfare Services (CWS).
